Empire! Empire! (I Was A Lonely Estate) Announce New Album

Emo bands new and old continue to rise or return. Some heavy hitters have yet to be heard from, even in the wake of the Mineral and American Football resurrections. Back in 2009, before this whole hullabaloo really kicked into gear, Michigan’s Empire! Empire! (I Was A Lonely Estate) released the critically adored What It Takes To Move Forward. The album was an 11-track masterstroke of emo at a time when it wasn’t nearly as cool to find the next one of those. Now, after being a split and 7″ machine, the band is releasing a new album.

On August 19, Empire! Empire! will release You Will Eventually Be Forgotten on their own Count Your Lucky Stars Records and Topshelf Records. The album is another 11 tracks, with Mineral’s Chris Simpson and Braid’s Bob Nanna each guesting on one. Keith Latinen described the tracks with the following on the band’s Facebook page:

Most of you know how important the lyrics are to us in this band. In this album, each song tells a story in a very literal and personal way. I tried my best to paint a very vivid picture so that you, the listener, can just imagine yourselves there- like you are actually reliving it.

The post went on to tease graphic novel bearing the title Ribbon (shared with the album’s first track) that pairs the art of Free Ben Sears with lyrics from the album. Ribbon will be available both singly and packaged with the album.

The band also promised an 8-week tour hitting most of the States, kicked off with a September 15 show in Columbus with Mineral. Stay tuned here for news and to the band’s Facebook for new lyrics each week leading up to the release. If this album broaches the greatness of What It Takes To Move Forward, you won’t want to miss it. For now, check out the album art and tracklist.
