REVIEW: Chains – ‘The Sorrow, The Sadness’ EP

Artist: Chains
Album: The Sorrow, The Sadness EP
Label: Calaveras Records
Genre: Metal, Hardcore

Let’s be honest: you miss Set Your Goals. I miss the band as well, for the sole fact that they are the pop-punk outfit that gave the genre an aggressive edge. This Will Be The Death Of Us is one of my favorite anthem-riddled, pop-punk releases, for it’s the prime example of the passionate personality and delivery inherent to the genre. However, following 2011’s Burning At Both Ends, the band went into a quiet state, seemingly without any intent of letting the music world …

Chains Stream Debut EP, ‘The Sorrow, The Sadness’

A few weeks back, Set Your Goals’ vocalist Matt Wilson took to social media to update fans as to the uncertain future of the beloved pop punk outfit. In doing so, the frontman additionally alerted followers to his latest undertaking, Chains.

“I have always had ideas that wouldn’t quite work for SYG; either the lyrics were too dark or the parts were too aggressive. Chains is an outlet for that,” Wilson explained via Facebook, adding that his current project is more in line with the music he grew up listening to.

Now, a week ahead of their first …

Outlook Uncertain: Set Your Goals Update Fans On Status Of Band

Set Your Goals have been a favorite band of many UTG staffers and readers over the years, but anyone with even the slightest interest in the beloved pop punk outfit could tell you it has been a while since the group did basically anything at all. To make matters worse, they have also remained largely silent about when, or even if, they plan on doing more in the future.

On Christmas morning, an update was posted on the band’s official Facebook explaining that the members of Set Your Goals had only recently learned of their ability to communicate with fans …

Set Your Goals Vocalist Starts New Band, Chains

Set Your Goals have been in a quiet phase since releasing two singles in “Only Right Now” and “I’ll Walk It Off.”

Currently, vocalist Matt Wilson has broken this silence by releasing information about his new project called Chains. The band itself is a step away from the accustomed SYG sound with a darker tone and lyrics. Here is what Wilson had to say about the new project:

“I am equal parts darkness and light, and I have always had ideas that wouldn’t quite work for Set Your Goals; either the lyrics were too dark or the parts were too

Set Your Goals Postpones SoCal Holiday Show; Band Releases Statement

It is with much dismay that we here at UTG announce that Set Your Goals will be postponing their upcoming holiday show at Los Angeles’ Chain Reaction this Friday, December 7. The decision was made because of vocalist Jordan Brown’s recently ruptured achilles tendon from Sunday’s show. Rest assured that the band’s loyal Southern Californian fans will still have a show to attend in the future, once Brown has been cleared to actually move around at shows (because let’s face it: watching somebody sing in a wheelchair is boring).

This Time Next Year (who were originally planning on making this …

Set Your Goals Frontman Finishes Show After Breaking Foot On Stage

According to Set Your Goals fans on Twitter, one of the band’s frontmen, Jordan Brown, broke his foot on stage last night at A Very GK! Holiday in Oakland, California. However, even after somehow breaking his foot, Brown continued to perform for his fans anyway.

This is the kind of dedication to fans we at Under The Gun always like to see from artists. For instance, according to YouTube, this past summer, Lady Gaga was hit in the head at a show in New Zealand. After finishing the song and taking a ten minute break, she told her audience, …
