After leaving Anathallo, Andrew Dost went on a quest, a trip back to his college days when he penned a rough play about Christopher Columbus. Dusting off these older songs, he assembled them onto protools in unique places, everywhere from bathrooms to churches. With help from friends, family and tour mates, he made the collection of songs come alive by playing borrowed instruments, breaking glasses, playing woodblocks. Written, produced, recorded and almost entirely played by Dost, this is a milestone, a true medal of a do it yourself ethic.

The story is a comedy of sorts, taking preposterous liberties with the legendary tale of Christopher Columbus. With sounds that bring to mind Ben Folds, They Might Be Giants, Elvis Costello and even Weezer, Columbus! takes a quirky story and creates a heartfelt world for it, with help from Michael Nau (of Page France and The Cotton Jones Basket Ride), Nate Ruess (of The Format), Joel Thiele (of Anathallo), and Chris Fafalios and Steve Soboslai (of Punchline).
