Dan Aykroyd Says “Ghostbusters 3” Script Is “Excellent,” Will Shoot With Or Without Bill Murray

Just a few months ago, reps from Sony commented that they would not be moving forward on a new Ghostbusters project without the involvement of Bill Murray. This came as a disappointment to fans across the planet who had been following the sequel, which has been in development limbo for over a decade, and truly believed the video game and other recent pop culture mentions were a sign of good things to come.

Don’t fret just yet because according to Dan Aykroyd the script is finished and shooting is going ahead as planned in Spring 2012, with or without the involvement of Bill Murray.

Aykroyd recently commented on the project, as well as the situation with Murray, during an appearance on The Dennis Miller Show. When asked about the film, Aykroyd commented:

Yes, we will be doing the movie and hopefully with Mr. Murray. That is our hope. We have an excellent script. What we have to remember is that Ghostbusters is bigger than any one component, although Billy was absolutely the lead and contributed to it in a massive way.

Aykroyd went on to divulge a few plot details, commenting that his character (Ray Stantz) and the character portrayed by Harold Ramis (Egon) would appear over the hill and in need of help. Further, it was revealed the point of the film is not just to show where our heroes are now, but to setup the next generation of paranormal fighters:

The promise of Ghostbusters 3 is that we get to hand the equipment and the franchise down to new blood. We’re going to need… three guys and a young woman.

.

The film still has no release date, but with shooting planned for the Spring we assume Summer 2013 the most likely candidate.

Do you think they should move forward without Bill Murray? Also, do you really want another series of films without the original cast? Comment below and let us know!
