REST IN PEACE: Levon Helm

We’re very saddened to say that legendary drummer/vocalist of The Band and solo musician Levon Helm has passed away today at the age of 71 after a long battle with throat cancer.

With over 25 releases and such well known songs as “The Weight”, “I Shall Be Released” and “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down”, Helm will surely be missed as he was certainly one-of-a-kind and a staple in the country/folk/rock world for several decades.

I for one will be watching The Last Waltz today in honor of Helm. If you haven’t seen it, I’d highly recommend it as it displays some of Helm’s best work along with The Band and countless renowned artists from the ’60s and ’70s. Check out a segment from the Scorsese documentary after the jump!
