Against Me!’s Tom Gabel Comes Out As Transgender, Reveals New Name

Against Me! frontman Tom Gabel has come out a member of the transgender community and will soon begin the living his life as a woman.

News of Gabel’s decision to come out, why he’s chosen to take the name Laura Jane Grace, and what all this means for the future of Against Me! will be covered in a new interview with Rolling Stone that hits stands Friday. In a teaser post on the magazine’s website, Gabel quips about why he’s chosen to come out through RS:

Because this is the first time a major rock star has come out as transgender, the singer made a point of speaking openly about it. “I’m going to have embarrassing moments,” says Gabel, “and that won’t be fun. But that’s part of what talking to you is about – is hoping people will understand, and hoping they’ll be fairly kind.”

If Gabel is going to be happier, we support her. Stay tuned for more details this weekend.

  2. Luck and strength on your journey, Laura. I hope you keep making music, and that somewhere out there, a trans teen will see your example and take hope from it.
