REVIEW: Before You Exit – ‘I Like That’ EP

ARTIST: Before You Exit
ALBUM: I Like That EP
GENRE: Pop
LABEL: None

Before You Exit consists of brothers Connor, Riley and Toby McDonough. They’ve been making music for a number of years now, and their EP I Like That is their sophomore release. Considering how young the three of them are they are doing very well for themselves with over 100,000 fans on Facebook.

If you want to shamelessly listen to something that is kind of like One Direction but not run the risk of getting caught by your friends listening to them then you might like Before You Exit’s EP. It’s an all around feel good pop album. It has all of the typical songs you might look for in a light hearted pop album: love songs, a song about pining for a female friend and some more love songs.

“End Of the World” is easily the best track on the album. It’s fast paced, full of electronic beats and is obnoxiously catchy. The rap breakdown by their guest vocalist Anth really is what makes the song stand out from the rest. They should consider incorporating those kinds of verses in more of their music in the future. The title track is a close second with similar electronic beats and a catchy chorus that will have you singing along in no time.

While the songs are fun and catchy, nothing about the album really makes it stand out lyrically. There’s no doubt these boys can sing though, they are just getting started so they have plenty of time hone their skills and really find their niche. They’ve already grown quite a bit from their last release, and will surely continue that growth over the next couple of years. Boy band-esque pop groups seem to be on the rise once again, and these guys are looking to only get more and more popular as they craft new songs.

SCORE: 7/10
