This week, Angie puts a spotlight on Lisa Landry‘s comedy career. If you or your comedy troupe would like to be featured on Stand-Up Tuesdays, please email utgjames@gmail.com.

Comedian Lisa Landry’s third full-length recording, Use This Against Me (Rooftop Comedy), is a harsh, yet hilarious look at life after divorce that offers far more than expected. Recorded live at Denver’s Comedy Works while in the midst of of a rough split with her husband, Landry touches on sex, marriage, dating and love in a rather unique fashion.

In an effort to best document the reality of her divorce, Landry recorded the album just weeks before her divorce trial – coincidentally the same date as the album’s release. In Use This Against Me, fans get a rare glimpse, in real-time, into the feelings and perspective of something that happens to so many but is shared by so few. Landry wants to make it clear that she is not experiencing anything that hasn’t been experienced by others. She confesses: “I’m not a martyr, bad breakups happen all the time. I just happen to have a notebook full of jokes and a microphone”.

It’s Landry’s spin on things that provide a slightly off-beat view of life and make her absolutely endearing to her fans. While many comedians have joked about the trials and tribulations of parenthood, Landry kicks it up a notch in the track “Happy Bunghole Day”:

“He rips [the comforter] off of me, pulls off his pajama bottoms, pulls off his underwear, sits on my face and he screams, ‘It’s Bunghole day! Arghhhhhhh!’”

Landry is an utterly likable and down-to-earth comic who is incredibly easy to relate do (even if you aren’t going through a divorce). The Louisiana native has appeared on CBS’ The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, NBC’s The Bonnie Hunt Show, and Comedy Central’s Premium Blend. Her debut album, Put Your Keys In The Keybowl, was selected by iTunes as one of the ‘Top 10 Best Comedy CDs’ of 2008.

Lisa Landry’s Use This Against Me is now available via retailers including iTunes, Amazon, Google Play, and RooftopComedy.com and is also available to stream on Pandora, Spotify, and Last.fm.
