Netflix Teases ‘Orange Is The New Black’

One of our favorite advances in entertainment this year, by far, has been the introduction of original content by Netflix. Blurring the lines between television and film, the company who was once thought on the verge of bankruptcy has quickly jumped to the forefront of the future of entertainment with the periodic release of new, original series. House Of Cards lead the way in February, followed by the werewolf madness of Hemlock Grove in April. Arrested Development returned in May, and today we learned July 11 will see the debut of yet another exciting entry in this new age of digital entertainment.

Jenji Kohan’s Orange Is The New Black, which is based on Piper Kerman’s memoir of a year spent in prison, had its world trailer debut earlier today, June 6. The 13-episode series stars Taylor Schilling as the engaged Brooklynite Piper Chapman whose seemingly perfect life is turned upside down when she must serve time in a federal women’s prison. Jason Biggs plays her longtime fiance, and Laura Prepon appears as Shilling’s drug runner ex-girlfriend. You can view the first trailer for the series below.

Weeds started off strong and finished weaker than anyone could have imagined. Orange Is The New Black seems to have the comedic sense of Weeds in it, but is clearly a far more dramatic offering overall. Comment below and let us know your thoughts.
