’50 Shades Of Grey’ Movie Gets Release Date

Just when you thought the hype surrounding 50 Shades Of Grey had begun to subside, the official movie adaptation has been given a release date (and it’s not that far away).

According to a new press release sent out over the last day, Universal Pictures and Focus Features have set an August 1, 2014 release date for the theatrical adaptation of the international bestseller, 50 Shades Of Grey. The Focus Features domestic theatrical release will be in theaters nationwide. Universal Pictures International is releasing the movie in the rest of the world.

News of the 2014 release comes just a week after Sam Taylor-Johnson, known for Nowhere Boy, was announced as the film’s director. No casting has been confirmed, but rumors have swirled since the March 2012 acquisition of the film rights, so we expect something solid to surface soon.

Fifty Shades of Grey (first published in 2011) follows the relationship of 27-year-old billionaire Christian Grey and college student Anastasia Steele. Subsequent novels in the series, Fifty Shades Darker (2011) and Fifty Shades Freed (2012) explore the couple’s deepening relationship.

Knowing how much hoopla has arisen from the success of the book, we can only begin to imagine what will happen when footage from the film begins to appear online. Comment below and let us know who you think should play Grey and Steele.

Emma said no and laughed for even thinking she’d do it

  4. Guest says:

No Rob P. Henry Cavill would be a fantastic Christian G.

  5. Angelina Farmer says:

No one. This rubbish shouldn’t be made into a film at all. Relationship? I think not! If you think what they had is a relationship, you seriously need mental healthcare. Also, not real BDSM (bondage) either. A Twilight fanfic should not be glorified, specially one as horrid as this…hell, Twilight shouldn’t have been glorified. They are both seriously, seriously wrong when it comes to healthy relationships. BDSM or not!

  6. McKenna Murphy says:

Ian Somerholder or Henry Caville for Grey. Ana…i’m not sure. but NOT CHANNING TATUM for Christian!! No. Definitely NOT! Channing Tatum has that all american sweet guy look to him. He’s the kind, heart felt type like Dear John and The Vow…not 50 Shades style.

  7. McKenna Murphy says:

    i completely agree with you.

  8. Ang says:

Wentworth miller should be Christian! he is an adult, he is elegant enough to play Christian and can handle the drama of the deeper scenes. I am SO sick of Matt Bomer, Ian, Channing Tatum, or god forbid Robert Pattinson. This is going to be a career defining role. Think outside the box. Must the same people be cast in everything?

  9. Christina Daub says:

Ian somerhaulder and Ashley Greene if you please. Sigh…

  10. guest says:

I would definitley love to see SHANE WEST for Christian Grey! Jodelle Ferland would be my first choice for Anastasia Steel but Emma Watson would also work.

  11. debie says:

Matt Bomer for Christian Grey and Alexis Bledel for Anastasia Steele.

  12. Patch says:

If it has already got a release date, then I think they have already cast the leads. I am curious who has been chosen. Not certain of that, but fairly sure. I think the cast identities have been kept secret til they are ready to spill the beans. Ready to begin shooting. It could a real shocker about who are Christian and Ana.

  15. Beth Smith says:

I truly hope they do not cast Robert Pattinson as Christian. He is no right for the part in any way shape or form.Henry Cavill or Matthew Bomer would be good choices.

  16. nella131 says:

Ian Somerhalder and Ashley Green would be perfect.

  17. mary mccullough says:
