The Weeknd Debuts “Belong To The World”

Keeping the hype for his forthcoming album Kiss Land alive and well, Canadian crooner The Weeknd has released the official video for his latest single, “Belong To The World.”

Premiering with the same cinematic qualities found throughout his body of work, the latest offering from The Weeknd is as dense as anything he’s released in recent memory. The video runs just over seven minutes and features a near-three-minute spoken word introduction (not in English, of course). This would all be welcomed if it was building somewhere, but once the video kicks in it becomes clear setting an atmosphere was the only goal as viewers are given melodramatic performance shots set against the city lights of a foreign land. You can view the clip at the end of this post.

While I know that paragraph may not excite you for what is to follow, make no mistake. The latest single from The Weeknd is still just as good, if not better, than the title track released just weeks ago. For everything the video fails to deliver, “Belong To The World” more than makes up for with it’s sensual-yet-fierce vocals and tremendous sampling of Portishead’s “Machine Gun.”

Best Buy’s website claims Kiss Land will be released August 27, but we cannot confirm that with absolute certainty at this time. Comment below and let us know what you think of The Weeknd’s latest.
