SyFy Has Officially Greenlit ‘Sharknado 2’

Okay, internet. Let’s all take a deep breath and calm down. You won.

Though the debut of Sharknado was not a ratings juggernaut, the wild social media response to SyFy’s latest has been so great the cable network has officially greenlit plans to make Sharknado 2 a reality.

According to reports, the latest installment of “sharks caught in a tornado” will take place in New York City, but it is unclear at this time whether the film will be a prequel or sequel to the original. A cheese-laden statement released from SyFy reads “Every once in a while, there is a perfect storm – on television. The fans are clamoring for a sequel. Or perhaps it will be a prequel. What we can guarantee is that Sharknado 2 will be lots of fun. We’ll be announcing more details very soon. But we didn’t want our fans to worry they wouldn’t get their fill of more shark fin, I mean, fun next year.”

If this is the level of quality SyFy is holding themselves to with the next Sharknado, I think I may have to sit that round out. Rumors are flying that Tara Reid will be back for the second film, but those reports cannot be confirmed at this time.
