Jamie Foxx Is “Aggressively Pursuing” The Role Of ‘Spawn’

Though he’s just started to make the press rounds for his upcoming role as Electro in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, it seems Jamie Foxx may soon be spearheading another popular comic franchise (if he has his way, that is).

Back in January, Spawn creator Todd McFarlane told MTV he was continuing to work on his long-gestating film sequel/reboot to his popular comic franchise, and added that a then unnamed Hollywood star had expressed interest in the role. He said, “I continue to sort of write a page here and there. I’ve said before I have a guy waiting in the sidelines who’s an Academy Award winner/actor who’s just goin’…phones every three weeks going, ‘Todd, where’s the script? Where’s the script? Where’s the script?” People made guesses, and everyone you can probably think of was thrown into the ring of possibilities, but McFarlane remained silent, and has continued to do so to this day.

Fast forward to last week. Movies.com had a chance to speak with Jamie Foxx about his role as Electro, and during the conversation the subject moved to roles Foxx still longed to play. He responded, “Spawn is one, yeah. And Mike Tyson. Those are two roles I would just love to do. I’m aggressively pursuing them.”

Call us crazy, but “aggressively pursuing” sounds like an awful fitting description for someone who is calling a director repeatedly asking for status updates on a project they are not yet attached to. Neither part will confirm this possibility, of course, but our hopes remain high.

Spawn last hit the big screen back in 1997, and at that time it was Michael Jai White in the title role. I wouldn’t mind seeing White have a second chance, but I’d be lying if I said that idea of Foxx in the role wasn’t appealing. Comment below and let us know your thoughts.
