System Of A Down Working On A New Album?

Alternative metal Armenian band System of a Down haven’t released new material since 2005’s Hypnotize, and the years since have seen both a reunion and some in fighting about new material. However, as a new video shows, the band told the crowd at a show in Los Angeles on July 29 that “Next time we come back here, we’ll have a new fucking album.” While this still hasn’t been explained further (maybe they won’t come back to Los Angeles until 2026?), it does seem to imply that the band are working on a new record.

Back in June, vocalist Serj Tankian showed no effort to making new System recordings. He told Artist Direct “I can’t write a forced record. It’s like romancing someone at a time you don’t want to be romantic… A new record requires three years. It’s not something I can do right now. When I can commit to a three-year album cycle, I’ll be down to do it.” Before that, bassist Shavo Odadjian blamed Tankian for the hold up on a new album. Perhaps things have since been cleared… or maybe the drummer just felt like teasing the hometown crowd. Either way, it’s hopeful to know that System is at least aware that touring with no new music in eight years is mildly ridiculous.
