George Clooney, Matt Damon, John Goodman, and Bill Murray Go To War In First ‘Monuments Men’ Trailer

Yesterday I mentioned the fast-approaching season of potential award-winning films, and just moments ago another surefire box office (and critical) hit released its first trailer.

This December, George Clooney is bringing together Matt Damon, John Goodman, Bill Murray, and Cate Blanchett in his latest directorial effort, The Monuments Men. Based on the Robert Edsel book of the same name, the film tells the true story of a WWII platoon tasked by FDR with rescuing artistic masterpieces from Nazi thieves in Germany and returning them to their rightful owners.

The film is a co-production between Sony and Fox. Clooney and producing partner Grant Heslov wrote the script.

Without giving too much away, the first trailer for Monuments Men is sprinkled with moments of humor amidst a war torn Germany. All the stars are introduced and the plot is set into motion, but creative editing makes it hard to feel like all that much has been given away. The dialogue is snappy enough to make Aaron Sorkin smile, and the cinematography is top notch. You can view the preview below.

The Monuments Men opens December 18.
