Eminem Announces ‘Marshall Mathers LP 2,’ Teases New Music

The world is still debating the pros and cons of last night’s Video Music Awards, but one of the biggest stories of the evening happened during a commercial break.

Spread across two commercials shown amidst the annual MTV event, Eminem revealed last night that he will be releasing The Marshall Mathers LP 2 on November 5 of this year. The album, which was announced during ads for Beats By Dre headphones, will be Eminem’s ninth studio album to date. No single was released to coincide with the news, but new material was teased in the ads. You can view both clips at the end of this post.

For those with fuzzy memories, the original Marshall Mathers LP hit stores in 2000. MMLP2 will be Em’s first album since 2010’s Recovery.

Though it’s far too early to judge Eminem’s latest material, it does sound like at least one familiar rock classic has been sampled on the track. Comment below and let us know your excitement for MMLP2.

UPDATE: Listen to “Berzerk,” in full, here.
