Lil Wayne Streams “Believe Me” Featuring Drake

“It’s not about what you walk away from, it’s what you walk away with…”

After a little more than a year of questionable verses and uncertainty over the future of his relationship with hip hop, Lil Wayne is preparing to take the urban music scene by storm once more with the upcoming release of Tha Carter V. The record’s first single, “Believe Me,” found its way online late last night. It’s a subtle track as far as production is concerned, but it finds both Weezy and fellow YMCMB member Drake delivering aggressive flows that touch on everything from success and wealth, to awards shows, press, the future, and the rest of their Young Money family. I would not consider it radio friendly, but i am certain you will find it climbing the ranks at a hip hop station near you in no time. You can stream the song, in full, below:

The last dozen or so songs that have featured Lil Wayne did absolutely nothing for me, but as soon as his verse kicks in on “Believe Me” it’s clear we are dealing with a different breed of Weezy. The focus and fervent determination to be the absolute best that fueled his early work is present once more, only this time it’s being channeled through the wit and perspective of a far more mature musical talent.

As for Drake’s contribution, I am not sure anything really can be written about Canada’s hottest hip hop star that has not already been said a hundred times before. Aubrey is on fire right now, and every track he touches might as well have been graced by King Midas himself. I am not sure how long he can keep this streak going, but it is certainly exciting to witness while it lasts.

Tha Carter V will find its way online soon. Drake’s latest album, Nothing Was The Same, is available now wherever music is sold.
