Less than two months away from the release of his highly-anticipated new album, Common has announced that he is the latest member of the Def Jam Records family.
According to a news release issued this morning, Common has signed to Def Jam via No I.D.’s imprint label Atrium. The Chicago emcee’s first album with the label, titled Nobody’s Smiling, will arrive in stores July 22.
Speaking to the press about the decision to sign Common, No I.D. offered, “Common and I have a long history of making great music together. His rich legacy and robust talent are perfect additions to the Def Jam family. It’s particularly significant that he’s coming under our roof for his 10th album as a matured artist and cultural ambassador. It’s a tremendous boost for the spirit of Def Jam as well as the world of hip-hop.”
“War,” the first single off Nobody’s Smiling, can be streamed below. Pre-orders for the album are not available at this time, but are expected to go live in the weeks ahead. Stay tuned.
