A second trailer has been released to promote the forthcoming big screen adaptation of The Giver.
If you attended school in the United States it’s hard to imagine you made it much further than the seventh grade before a teacher, counselor, or other type of advisor told you to read The Giver. It’s not a difficult book to breeze through, but for one reason or another the ideas about what the future might really be like have continued to fascinate (and terrify) young minds for decades. The first major motion picture based on the book seems to have nailed the mood and fears associated with the book, and it has done so without a super recognizable lead. You can view the film’s latest trailer below:
If the big take away from the first trailer for The Giver was just how much of a badass Jeff Bridges continues to be, then I think the star of this clip is really Meryl Streep. She has a commanding presence in essentially every film, but serving here as the authority on and, for lack of a better word, gatekeeper of creativity gives her ample room to stretch her talents and showcase the wide range of emotions she is able to convey.
The Giver opens stateside August 14.
