Nicki Minaj has released the official video for “Pills N Potions,” the lead single off her forthcoming album, The Pink Print.

Anyone familiar with the career of Nicki Minaj knows that the “Starships” songwriter typically relies on over-the-top visuals to take center stage in her videos, including Freddy Krueger gloves and the ever popular neon colored beach party. This time, however, she keeps things relatively simple by taking center stage for a series of performance sequences that sometimes include a special guest appearance from a bearded Game. It’s romantic and sexy, but raw in a way that, at times, can make one almost feel uncomfortable in their own skin. You can view the video below:

Minaj has spent the majority of 2014 releasing hip hop heavy tracks, often filled with violent lyricism, but “Pills N Potions” is something completely different. This is the Nicki we all know from past radio success, and like those who follow the multi-talented Drake it’s a side that fans are willing to accept because of how well Minaj handles the material. It’s hard to know what The Pink Print will hold in store for listeners, but with the release of this track after singles like “Chiraq,” it’s clear Minaj can do just about anything and people will be willing to listen. That kind of power and pull is what every star hopes to obtain over the course of their career. What happens next is entirely up to Nicki, and I for one am pretty excited to see what unfolds.
