Behemoth Claim Poland Show Canceled For Political Reasons

Behemoth are currently on a headlining tour in support of their most recent album, The Satanist. For the second time this year the band has been barred from performing in eastern Europe. Earlier this year they were detained by Russian police and subsequently deported due to their lack of visas. Their frontman believes otherwise though, and is convinced it was due to political reasons. Now their performance in Poznan, Poland has been canceled after it was pushed back multiple times. The reason? A “concern for the safety of students and campus workers.”

Behemoth claim that this too is for political reasons, and had the following to say to Metal Hammer on the situation:

“We have no doubt it is a political decision. It’s not the first clampdown on national artists. Poznan, instead of being a free culture centre, begins to resemble Russia.

Article 73 of the Constitution of the Republic of Poland says: ‘Everyone has the freedom of artistic creation.”

Instead of taking the offer to perform at an alternate venue, the band opted to cancel entirely. They said the venues available were not the quality they want for their fans.
