G-Eazy Encounters A Volatile Relationship In “Downtown Love” Video

When you go beyond the looks, production, and style of Bay Area rapper G-Eazy it’s not hard to see that his music basically boils down to one of three things: Party/Ego material, love, and the often troubling times that come when two people try to make a relationship work. This isn’t a bad thing per se, but to act as if G’s decision to touch on any of these topics is something new would only show a lack of understanding about his work up to this point. G has always been cocky, but he’s also worn his heart on his sleeve, and those two elements finally come together on his new single, “Downtown Love.”

Taken from G’s 2014 album, These Things Happen, “Downtown Love” is a hip-hop ballad about love on the rocks that isn’t afraid to get a little dirty. G describes the girl he’s into, as well as highs and lows of their relationship, including the night they spent doing drugs off of Apple products. These topics are mirrored in the video, which finds model Ashley Moore starring as the lady who has caught G’s eye. Her scenes are in color, his are in black and white, but when their stories finally come together you don’t really know what to expect. Check it out:

In my opinion, “Downtown Love” is one of the strongest tracks off These Things Happen. It’s catchy, but also incredibly complex, and it shares a perspective on relationships that has rarely been presented in music. Comment below and let me know if you agree.

G-Eazy is currently on the second leg of his sold-out ‘From The Bay To The Universe Tour.’ I’d link to tickets, but like I just told you – it’s completely sold out.
