We’re The Millers star Will Poulter has been cast as Pennywise the clown for New Line and True Detective director Cary Fukunaga’s two-part It reboot.
Poulter, who also appears in the highly successful Maze Runner series, was chosen after a decision from the studio to cast a younger actor in the iconic villain role. Tim Curry, otherwise known as a God amongst men to everyone at UTG, famously played the part when the Stephen King book by the same name was first adapted in 1990.
Sources close to production say Fukunaga was blown away by Poulter’s audition.
Given the 900-page source material, a movie version of It was not thought possible when the book was first adapted in the early 90s. New Line’s plan is to shoot the novel this summer in New York and release the finished product in two parts. The first entry will deal with the protagonists as children, while the second chapter will focus on their lives as adults. Poulter will, obviously, appear in both.
We are big fans of the original It, so you can rest assured we will be following the film closely as production gets underway in the months ahead. For now, we recommend you pick up the book that inspired this film and dive into one of Stephen King’s greatest, not to mention most unnerving, creations.
