Here Are Six Bands You Shouldn’t Miss At Today’s Mixtape Festival

East Coast Collective, famously known on Long Island for putting on massive amounts of great shows ranging from punk (Glassjaw recently played a surprise set during a Soda Bomb show) to hardcore (Bane played Spring Mixtape Fest) to hip-hop (Ja Rule headlined a show last summer), is also home to a beloved two-day festival: Today’s Mixtape Fest.

Now on its third annual run, Mixtape Fest continues its legacy with over twenty of today’s established punk and hardcore musicians. In the years prior, the festival has had acts like The Wonder Years, Senses Fail, Backtrack, Terror and many more. Notably, the ECC team also strives to bring local acts to the forefront – a number of whom will be playing the festival this year.

Here are six bands on the bill for the weekend we think you’d be nuts to miss.

Microwave

We at UTG have been some of the biggest Microwave cheerleaders since our discovery of their debut full-length record Stovall last year (which you can grab a copy of here). Their killer AudioTree live sessions have kept us antsy long enough and we are beyond stoked to catch them on the first day of the festival.

State Champs

Springing right back into action since their massive Australian tour this summer, the Albany pop-punk five-piece will be making an appearance on the second day of Mixtape Fest. With their sophomore LP, Around The World And Back, coming this fall, the band may or may not be gracing us with some new material on stage.

A Loss For Words

The beloved Massachusetts pop-punk four-piece announced last year that they will be parting ways with one another by the end of 2015. Since then, they’ve spent their time tying loose ends and saying goodbye to cities all around the world. Catch them on the first day of Mixtape Fest as this may be one of their last Long Island shows.

Stray From The Path

Come celebrate the release of their brand new record Subliminal Criminals (due out on August 14) at day one of the festival. This may very well be a hometown record release show of sorts for the hardcore four-piece. It will be a show for the books.

The Movielife

Day one of the festival will go down as The Movielife’s first Long Island show in thirteen years. The band reportedly continues to showcase the same amount of stage presence and energy they did over ten years ago before they parted ways. The band began playing reunion shows earlier this year but are yet to go out on a proper tour across the country. Catching them live this weekend will be one of those moments you tell your kids about.

Every Time I Die

These Buffalo, NY frontrunners guarantee a great time. Their music translates seamlessly into their live performances and they definitely know how to please a crowd. Catch them on the second day of Mixtape Fest playing hits both old and new.

….and in case you haven’t heard, the man/myth/legend Andrew W.K. is performing a very special set during the festival’s official afterparty on Saturday night. If that isn’t enough to make you bolt to Long Island this weekend, you can check out the full lineup below.

Today’s Mixtape Fest will be held from August 15 to 16 at the Emporium in Patchogue, NY. Tickets are available here. Act fast. We’ll see you there.

Make sure you’re following us on Twitter and Instagram as we will be documenting this weekend’s Mixtape festivities.
