Watch One Direction Join NASA In “Drag Me Down” Video

One Direction squashed any fears that the loss of Zayn Malik would lead to their ruin when they released “Drag Me Down” in early August. Now, with the release of the song’s official video, the boys turned men of 1D seem perfectly content to be a four-piece pop music force until the end of time.

Set on the grounds of NASA, the official video for “Drag Me Down” finds the members of One Direction preparing to explore the far corners of deep space. As the song progresses, viewers watch each member go through various training exercises, including weightlessness and interactions with robots. It all builds to a gorgeously rendered launch sequence, but there are also a number of performance montages littered throughout as well. A little something for everyone, if you will. You can view the video below.

I was hooked on “Drag Me Down” from the first time it hit my ears, and now that I’ve heard it more than a hundred times I’m confident it will go down in history as one of the year’s best songs. One Direction never need to flip the script on what they do, but they have and continue to do so with each new release. Where Midnight Memories felt like the peak of high-gloss power pop, “Drag Me Down” showcases a return to live instrumentation and big, soaring hooks. I don’t know about you, but I think the latter is the better fit. Comment below and let us know your thoughts.

One Direction should be releasing a new studio album sometime this fall (likely in November). Follow UTG on Twitter for updates.
