We Interviewed Kyle William!

After arriving to the home base of THE FEST (The Holiday Inn on University Avenue in Gainesville, Florida) I ran into gritty emo rocker Kyle William and was able to get a quick Q&A.

Billy T of UTG: Billy T here with Kyle William. He is waving.

Kyle William: I am waving.

UTG: I guess I wanted to know a bit about your influences and what genre you’d put yourself into.
KW: My influences are would have to be nicotine, new style of vegan Doritos – yeah, vegan Doritos, I’m excited about it.
UTG: Are you a vegan?
KW: Yes, I am a vegan. What else – Gator Dawgs, The Fest, Neutral Milk Hotel… are my influences. I would say we play, as for our genre, I say we play music.
UTG: Right on, are you playing with a full band at THE FEST or an acoustic set?
KW: I’m playing both, acoustic tonight, Friday night with Fake Problems at a house show and electric tomorrow at the Holiday Inn on Saturday. Doing a little bit of both, trying to vary it up.
UTG: What other instruments are in the live band?
KW: Live band plays with just guitar, drum and bass – a power trio. And its kind of fun, we are working on bringing a violinist and trumpeteer the next time we go out. Pretty fun, just bring anybody who plays anything. So if anyone plays pots and pans you are more than welcome to come with us.
UTG: And you’re from the Tallahassee, Florida area?
KW: I currently live in Tallahassee, Florida. I’ve lived there for a few years, it’s where we’re “basing out of” and getting ready to move up to Providence and leaving Tallahassee simply behind.
UTG: Did you go to school in Tallahassee?
KW: I went to school in Tallahassee. I stopped this semester and decided to do the music thing for fun and see how it turns out.
UTG: do you have anything lined up for the spring as far as tours?
KW: We are going on tour for the end of January and all of February, just the east and the mid- west from Colorado to Michigan to Florida, that whole area. Kind of the center of the country. Four months of tour this summer – two months in the US and Canada, a month in Europe and then another somewhere else, haven’t decided where. Trying to make it out to Australia sooner or later.
UTG: Wow that is crazy. So if you were to be wearing a Halloween costume today on the 31st of October, what would it be?
KW: I would probably be Tobias McCay from Arrested Development, with jean short shorts, and blue body paint. I may or may not be wearing that tonight at the show. You will have to come to find out.
UTG: That is wonderful. So we at Under The Gun do not have final questions, we just let you wrap it up and say whatever you want.
KW: What would I say to your readers?
What’s the best thing… no I’ve got it (he takes the microphone from me)
What are your influences for doing interviews?
UTG: Nicotine, veganism… no. I would say anxiety and interest in music.
KW: How long have you been doing interviews for?
UTG: I’ve been writing reviews for the site, and this is my first coverage of an event.
KW: What’s your favorite review you’ve ever done?
UTG: I did a review of Protest The Hero’s new album.
KW: What’d you think of it?
UTG: I gave it an 8 or 9 out of 10.
KW: I just want to say Tallahassee always brings the beer.
