Radiohead’s Drummer Goes Solo

Now, some Radiohead news that doesn’t involve Thom Yorke: The band’s drummer, Phil Selway, is releasing his debut solo album this summer. The disc, titled Familial, will be out on August 30 and was recorded at Oxfordshire’s Courtyard Studios with producer Ian Davenport.

According to NME, several musicians have contributed to the record, including Lisa Germano, Soul Coughing bassist Sebastian Steinberg and Wilco members Glen Kotche and Pat Sansone.

Selway has been performing solo for nearly a decade, but Familial will be his first official album. The musician sang on last year’s track “The Ties That Bind Us,” which he recorded with 7 Worlds Collide, a supergroup charity collective that also features Crowded House’s Neil Finn and Radiohead’s Ed O’Brien. The track was one of sixteen songs on the group’s disc, The Sun Came Out, released last summer. You can watch Selway perform the number here.

For those who don’t care about solo projects, fear not—NME says Radiohead is currently recording their next record in Los Angeles.
