SINGLE REVIEW: Drake – Marvin’s Room

Artist: Drake
Song: Marvin’s Room
Album: None

It is hard to believe Drake’s Thank Me Later has already been out for a year. This is most likely due to the undeniably thorough marketing team behind the Young Money, but regardless, Drake is still going strong and very much in demand. Earlier this week, Drizzy revealed plans to release his reportedly “smoother” Sophomore effort, Take Care, on October 24 and celebrated the news by dropping a track we simply had to discuss. Take a moment now and experience the first taste of what is to come, “Marvin’s Room.”

Can I just say, “wow”? Anyone familiar with Drake’s So Far Gone mixtape probably noticed a similar feel and delivery with this song, a rap/sing mashup that only Drake has perfected, but that is definitely no reason to complain. It is essentially his bread and butter delivery, only with a more atmospheric and, dare I say, ambitious sound (that would go well on a tour with The Weeknd. Hint Hint.). The smooth voice that gave us “Best I Ever Had” is met with flares of harsh celebrity reality from the same tone that delivered “Last name ever, first name greatest” and our iPods can’t hit repeat enough!

Drake offered “Marvin’s Room” as a free download, so you have absolutely no reason to not permanently place this song on all your mobile devices. And yes, it sucks that Take Care may still be months from release, but at least we have this to hold us over (and set quite the mood) until then.
