Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes outperformed expectations at the box office Friday, bringing in an estimated $18 million. This, coupled with $1.3 million from midnight screenings and solid word-of-mouth from audience and fans should take the film across the $40 million mark by the end of the weekend.
Considering the film’s success, take thus far, and $93 million price tag (a relatively low amount considering the level of technology used to create the apes), it seems safe to assume the film will have a sequel (most likely titled The Planet Of The Apes).
Elsewhere on the chart, the Ryan Reynolds and Jason Bateman lead comedy The Change-Up performed below expectations, bringing in a modest $4.5 million. The film should finish the weekend around $12 million.
