For the second weekend in a row, Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes has claimed the Friday box office crown. Taking in $7.9 million domestically, the film only slightly outgrossed The Help, which followed with $7.5 million (and played on significantly less screens).
Elsewhere on the chart, Final Destination 5 3D reached $7.3 million, putting it on track to open around $18 million by the end of the weekend. This is slightly below studio expectations, especially considering the favorable reviews from fans and critics, but a legacy of bad sequels may have something to do with the initial hesitation.
30 Minutes or Less and Glee: The Movie, the weekend’s two additional new films, both came in lower than expected, grossing an estimated $4.5 million and $3 million.
