HOLY SH!T: The Trailer For “Les Miserables” Is Beautiful

Details on the forthcoming film adaptation of Les Miserables have been quiet for the most part, but this week the film’s marketing team is kicking things into high gear with the release of the first teaser trailer.

Lead by Hugh Jackman and Russell Crowe as Jean Valjean and Inspector Javert, Tom Hooper’s take on Les Miserables looks downright glorious so far. Given the short length of the clip, it is unclear how closely the film will stick to the original work, but something tells me the word “Oscar” is going to be thrown around a lot as the December 14 release approaches. You can view the teaser after the jump.

Synopsis: Set against the backdrop of 19th-century France, Les Misérables tells an enthralling story of broken dreams and unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption–a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit. Jackman plays ex-prisoner Jean Valjean, hunted for decades by the ruthless policeman Javert (Crowe) after he breaks parole. When Valjean agrees to care for factory worker Fantine’s (Hathaway) young daughter, Cosette, their lives change forever.
