?uestlove’s New Job: NYU Professor

Ahmir “?uestlove” Thompson, the producer and drummer most famed for being the leader of hip hop band The Roots, has a new job. In addition to being a session musician and band leader for the Philadelphia based band that doubles as Jimmy Fallon’s house band, the drummer will be teaching a class at NYU.

The class? “Classic Albums”  at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts for this Spring semester. The class will be two credits, and focus on classic albums that stand out historically one way or another – be it production, songwriting, ingenuity, or something else. If I were an NYU student planning on taking this class, I’d be pumped. I’m guessing it went from “let’s take this class, it’ll be easy” to “yeah I’m taking a class with ?uestlove”, and that’s pretty cool. More power to him for doing it; if you follow his Twitter, you’ll know he’s actually got quite the diverse taste in music, which should make him a great choice to teach.
