British actor Richard Griffiths, perhaps best known for his portrayal of Vernon Dursley in the Harry Potter films, has died at the age of 65 after complications following heart surgery.
While it goes without saying the majority of our readers will forever connect Griffiths with his role as Uncle Vernon, the actor’s entire body of work is one deserving of praise. His memorable performances in Withnail and I, Gandhi, Pie in the Sky, and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (just to name a few), were executed with grace and skill which he refined over and over throughout his decades of work in entertainment.
Griffiths’ agent, Simon Beresford, described him as “a remarkable man and one of our greatest and best-loved actors.” He said Griffiths died in hospital on Thursday. He is survived by his wife, Heather.
Rest in peace, Richard. You will be missed.
