Margot & the Nuclear So and So’s Stream First Single From New Album

Indiana’s eclectic indie rockers in Margot & the Nuclear So and So’s are streaming a beautiful new single from their forthcoming sixth studio record, Sling Shot to Heaven. Despite some major changes in the band’s sound from 2010’s Buzzard and on, “Hello, San Francisco” (likely inspiring the album’s cover art, or vice versa) would fit nicely into one of Margot’s earlier releases, only this time around, more personal growth is evident as well as a slightly smoother production and no orchestral outbursts.

Frontman Richard Edwards explained to Esquire, “I think this was the last song I wrote for the record. The reason being, I got a silly idea in my head that I wanted an album to start with the lines, ‘Hello, San Francisco! Baby, I don’t ever wanna die,’ and it took a while for me to write a halfway decent song around that pre-conceived bit of silliness. It’s a worthy representation of the spirit of the record. It sounds like fall to me, and I’m always trying, and mostly failing, at making things that sound like fall.”

Coincidentally, over two years ago, I chose the band’s debut album, The Dust Of Retreat, to be included in an ‘Essential Fall Albums’ playlist here on UTG, so I guess Richard and company are coming across to listeners exactly as they hope to.

Stream “Hello, San Francisco” after the jump and make sure to pre-order Sling Shot To Heaven as it releases April 22.
