Hollywood icon Mickey Rooney has passed away at the age of 93.
According to Los Angeles Police Commander Andrew Smith, Rooney was with his family when he died at his North Hollywood home. No cause of death has been revealed at the time, but reports claim the actor had been sick for some time. There was nothing suspicious at his home and police do not feel an investigation is warranted.
Rooney was an actor by the time he could walk, appearing alongside his parents in their vaudeville act at only eighteen months of age. His passion for entertaining only continued to grow along with him, and by the time he was an adult Rooney was a full-blown movie star. His career spanned nine decades in total, with literally hundreds of roles along the way. A complete box office total for his work is not available at this time, but the BBC pointed out that by 1965 Rooney’s 200 films had earned more than $3 billion globally.
There may very well never be another actor as prolific or beloved as Mickey Rooney, and his absence from this world will be felt for years to come. Join us in saying farewell to Mickey by watching a clip from his 1956 classic, The Atomic Kid, below.
Rest easy, Mickey. You will never be forgotten.
