Chicago Rapper Big Glo, AKA Blood Money, Shot To Death In Englewood

Chicago is not messing around right now. The songs and so-called anthems you hear coming out of the trap movement are no joke. Kids are dying over this stuff, and it’s getting worse by the week. This is the second story like this I have written in two weeks and I wish I could tell myself it would be the last. Please, Chicago. Stay safe.

The Chicago Tribune is reporting that rapper Big Glo, real name Mario Hess, was shot dead last night in Englewood, IL. He was 33.

Glo, who happened to be a cousin to Chicago rapper Chief Keef, recently signed a deal with Interscope Records. He appeared on Keef’s track “Fuck Rehab” and, according to his manager, had been struggling with getting away from street life. “It’s a lot of crime and violence in Chicago, these rap guys are being targeted, so you know, just trying to get him outside the neighborhood. He’s from the streets,” Renaldo Reuben Hess said early Thursday morning.

“He was basically trying to just get his rap career together because that’s a good opportunity,” he said. “They gave him some money up front. It was a good chance for him to get himself out the hood.”

Hess was shot 10 times and pronounced dead at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County. Another man found at the scene was injured and taken to Stroger as well, but Hess claims he does not know the man’s relationship to the rapper.

Police have not named any suspects in connection to the shooting, but the investigation is ongoing.
