‘Magic Mike XXL’ Will Hit Theaters In 2015, Original Cast Expected To Return

…And the award for best sequel title goes to…

Magic Mike 2, which is now officially called Magic Mike XXL, will arrive in theaters July 3, 2015. Exhibitor Relations broke the news today via Twitter, but very little additional information regarding the release is available at this time.

According to reports, Channing Tatum and Reid Carolin have been working on the sequel’s script for the last several months. Plot details are being kept tightly under wraps, but Tatum did confirm to MTV over the weekend that the film would be a road trip movie and that most, if not all of the original cast is expected to make an appearance. Whether or not that includes Matthew McConaughey’s amazing turn as the hype man known as Dallas remains to be seen.

The original Magic Mike hit theaters in 2012. Critics assumed the film would only play to a niche, audience, but over time the $7 million dollar production generated over $167 million in box office receipts. A sequel may not have been planned at the start, but with results like that it’s not hard to understand why Warner Bros. would order another. We’ll bring you more on XXL as the release date approaches.
