The National are no strangers to the political scene. I mean, they did play at a fundraiser for President Obama’s re-election.
But this time, they’re taking a stand against situations over seas, which sadly affects their international fans. They have cancelled three shows in July/August that were scheduled in Kiev, St. Petersburg and Moscow, due to the political unrest between Ukraine and Russia.
The band released an apologetic, yet firm statement in regards to the cancellation earlier today on their Facebook page:
“Due to the ongoing political crisis in the region, we are sad to report that we have decided to cancel our shows in Moscow, St. Petersburg and Kiev this summer…We remain hopeful of coming to play for you in the future and we sincerely hope this current instability resolves in a positive, democratic and peaceful way. Take care of yourselves and we hope to see you soon.”
