‘Star Wars: Episode VII’ Cast Revealed

After months of hype and too many internet rumors for any site to possibly stay on top of, the studio behind Star Wars: Episode VII has finally revealed the lead cast for the upcoming film.

Actors John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow will join the original stars of the saga, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker in the new film. That’s a grand total of two women, and one of them was in the original series. If you don’t think people are going to notice that discrepancy, take a look at Twitter and see what you can find. Nerds are pissed.

Speaking in regards to the casting announcement, director JJ Abrams offered:

“We are so excited to finally share the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII. It is both thrilling and surreal to watch the beloved original cast and these brilliant new performers come together to bring this world to life, once again. We start shooting in a couple of weeks, and everyone is doing their best to make the fans proud.”

The real surprise for me on this list is the inclusion of Oscar Isaac, who has made quite a name for himself in recent years thanks to commanding turns in Drive and, more recently, Inside Llewyn Davis. He doesn’t exactly need a franchise like this to sustain his career, but if the whole thing tanks it could certainly blemish an otherwise flawless filmography.

Star Wars: Episode VII opens worldwide on December 18, 2015.
