Apart from a very select few (e.g. Let The Right One In, Fright Night–the original of course), vampire films usually do next to nothing for me, but Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi’s new mockumentary, What We Do In The Shadows, looks like a downright hilarious, bloody good time. If you’re familiar with the duo’s work on Eagle Vs. Shark and Flight Of The Conchords then you should have an idea of what to expect–except, add vampires and some very dark comedy.
In the film, a documentary crew follows a group of vampires that live together in a flat as they go about being themselves in various interviews, typical roommate arguments, and situations inside and outside their home. It appears that the film makes a point to touch on all your favorite vampire related legends and “rules” as many of these films tend to do, but has the well-known invitation rule ever been applied to trying to get into a bar? Not to my knowledge.
What We Do In The Shadows currently has no US release date but as it makes the festival rounds continuing to receive high praise, we’ll keep our eye out and hope to see more information soon. You can view the excellent trailer after the jump.
