‘Magic In The Moonlight’ Trailer: Woody Allen Knows What His Fans Want To See

After months of promotion and only a handful of stills, the first trailer for Woody Allen’s Magic In The Moonlight has been made available ahead of the film’s July 25 release.

Colin Firth stars as a world famous magician that makes a living on the side by debunking mystics, gypsies, and all others who attempt to rob or otherwise take advantage of those fooled by their slight-of-hand trickery. One day he is hired by a longtime friend to assist a wealthy family in the south of France that his friend believes is being deceived by a young women who claims to be clairvoyant. Firth’s character accepts the challenge, but upon meeting the women (played by Emma Stone) realizes he may be in over his head. In fact, he may be head over heels in love with her, or at least the part of her he believes to be real. Magic and romance ensue, likely at the same time in several circumstances. You can view the trailer below:

After seeing Allen dabble in history with To Rome With Love and Midnight In Paris, not to mention sharing a story of someone trying to escape their past with Blue Jasmine, it’s nice to see the aging filmmaker tackle an actual period piece. If it were anyone else Magic In The Moonlight would likely be held for a fall/winter release, but considering the fact that Blue Jasmine was Allen’s most financially successful work in years there seems to be no hesitation pushing this title out at time when Transformers and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will also be vying for box office dollars. I, for one, could not be more excited.
