Required Listening: The Field Effect – “Jenny (It’s Getting Late)”

New England has been a hotbed for indie/alt rock talent in recent years, and one of my personal favorite groups to watch develop during that time has been none other than The Field Effect. Their 2012 effort (Cartography) showcased a band primed for the major leagues, and their recognition has only continued to grow since its release. Today, the band partnered with the fine people at Vanyaland to share their latest material, and I am willing to wager up front you will think it’s their best work to date.

“Jenny (It’s Getting Late)” is the A-side to a limited edition cassette single The Field Effect plan to release this coming Friday, June 24. The song channels the peak of moments of alternative rock in the late 1990s, with ever-so-subtle modern twists. The verses bounce with the punchy sound of someone trying to get a handle on life, which flourishes into something altogether enchanting when the chorus finally arrives. You can stream the song, in full, below:

Those hoping to claim a copy of The Field Effect’s new double single can do so this Friday when the band plays WERS 88.9 65th Anniversary Show at the Sinclair in Cambridge, MA. Click here for tickets.
