‘The Disappearance Of Eleanor Rigby’ Trailer: Bring On The Oscar Buzz

The first trailer for The Disappearance Of Eleanor Rigby has found its way online ahead of the film’s fall release.

At first sight, The Disappearance Of Eleanor Rigby may seem like your typical dramatic tale of romance on the rocks, but the origin of the film is actually quite peculiar. The project was originally screened at the Toronto International Film Festival last year as two separate films – Him and Her – which together told the story of one romance through the eyes of each lover. At Cannes, the project appeared again, this time with the subtitle Them, and played as one film featuring select moments from Him and Her to create a single story. That version is the one headed to theaters later this year, and the first trailer sets up Jessica Chastain to be get a lot of early buzz before Oscar season officially arrives. You can view the trailer below:

There is talk of Him and Her being screened together in limited engagements across the country later this year, but at this point The Disappearance Of Eleanor Rigby seems to be what most audiences will encounter at their local cineplex. The official synopsis reads:

Once happily married, Conor (McAvoy) and Eleanor (Chastain) suddenly find themselves as strangers longing to understand each other in the wake of tragedy. The film explores the couple’s story as they try to reclaim the life and love they once knew and pick up the pieces of a past that may be too far gone.

The Disappearance Of Eleanor Rigby opens September 26.
