Under The Gun sent guest photographer, Jenn Curtis, to Jones Beach in Wantagh, NY to photograph the Vans Warped Tour on July 12, 2014.
The Vans Warped Tour hit Long Island last weekend at a new venue but as the same action packed tour we’ve grown to love. Fans of all ages lined the parking lot of Jones Beach anxiously awaiting the long day of music consumption. Of course the lineup featured some huge headlining names such as Mayday Parade, Of Mice and Men, Bayside and Less Than Jake, but there was also a plethora of fantastic bands of all scopes and sizes across the board. Among these are the highly noteworthy Breathe Carolina, The Word Alive, The Color Morale, The Maine, A Skylit Drive and Parkway Drive. Crowd favorites such as Crown the Empire, Issues, I the Mighty, and New York natives State Champs were also present with great performances as expected.
The Word Alive were bumped up to the main stage for this date, as they have been for many others so far. This is due in part to the overwhelming success of their latest album Real.
For those who did not get to catch the group’s set due to an early time slot, they were treated to a guest appearance by frontman Telle Smith during Breathe Carolina’s set. Smith helped to fill the shoes of Danny Worsnop (Asking Alexandria) for the song “Sellouts” off of the new album Savages. For what seemed like one of the larger crowds of the day, the ocean of fans were littered with beach balls and crowd surfers, one of which was in a blowup lifeboat.
Despite the ‘no crowd surfing’ signs, the energy was in full swing. As kids continued to flow over the barricade, security did their best to contain the chaos and keep everyone safe. As fans filed to their cars or the shoreline after a long day in the sun, it became clear that everyone seemed to enjoy their visit thoroughly.
