In what is seemingly an attempt to observe Valentine’s Day, Brand New frontman Jesse Lacey, along with his wife Ashley King-Lacey, have graced us with their rendition of the beautiful alt-country 1999 Billboard-charting single, “In Spite Of Ourselves” by John Prine.
The video was posted yesterday with a description of: “4 trackin’. Gettin’ irreverent. Working out our harmonizin’ on one of our favorite tunes. Andrea’s southern accent is totally real, Jesse’s isn’t at all,” on a Vimeo account that posed no other word on why or when the cover was actually recorded.
Regardless of the cause, however, it is safe to say that the duo’s take on the ballad, in all its alternative harmonies and country charm, is quite refreshing and is a much needed addition to our morning. You can check out their take on “In Spite Of Ourselves” here. Don’t forget to let us know what you think.
