061180’s ‘The Dream Of A God’ is creepy in tone and theme

Alabama noisemaker John Parnell creates under the moniker of 061180, an experimental project shrouded in ambiguity.

With a full title like The Dream of a God, I Must Go and Live.., …or stay and die, Obscenity Leads to Depravity, it’s clear that there’s a lot of ambition involved with Parnell’s newest musical undertaking. Pair that with a whopping 27 tracks and we’re left with a lot to take in. Serving as a score of sorts to a non-existent horror film, the true events that have inspired this work are as follows:

“In the summer of 1973, a small town in Louisiana was host to a string of grisly murders. Without a shred of evidence left at the scenes, much of the town’s population thought it was something sinister lurking in the forest. Authorities were horrified to discover the murders were the work of a blood thirsty cult!

God’s country ends outside of East Hodge, Louisiana.”

This is the kind of thing I can get behind. It’s a unique effort and I appreciate the dedication to rounding out the full experience, especially with multi-part tracks whose titles don’t disappoint (e.g. “All monsters are human (part II) Sixteen flavors of ole holy hell”). If you’ve got the time to invest in an hour of eerie compositions then dig in below.
