The NY Times reported late last night that surviving Beastie Boys members Mike D and Ad-Rock have signed a book deal with Random House subsidiary Spiegel & Grau.
The two plan on releasing a memoir that blends oral history with images from pop culture past. This unnamed offering will feature writings from a handful of journalists and is tentatively set to hit shelves in 2015.
Publisher Julie Graud had this to say about the group’s perspective.
“[Mike D and Ad-Rock were] interested in challenging the form and making the book a multidimensional experience. There is a kaleidoscopic frame of reference, and it asks a reader to keep up.”
The group’s agent Luke Janklow mentioned that, “After Yauch died, I didn’t push them, but I think that Adam and Mike ended up realizing that it was the right time for them. The first words out of Mike’s mouth were, ‘I don’t want to do a straight memoir.’”
