Metal Blade Pulls Catalog From Spotify

Could the winds of change be quickening? Following the earlier announcement (and defense that followed) from Century Media that they would NOT be placing their catalogs on Spotify, Metal Blade Records have officially pulled out as well.

Unlike CM, Metal Blade has yet to offer any official statement, but their definitely seems to be a growing faction against the rise of streaming services.

While services like Spotify can guarantee many artists more exposure, the payout rate has been a constant sore spot with most of the industry. In order to make a system this large work, the payout to individuals has to be small, requiring large amounts of attention in order to gain any real income. This simply doesn’t scale for many artists and the they’re quickly faced with a dilemma: Is it better to stream your music for nothing and gain exposure or is it better to require purchase of specific tracks in order to access them? We don’t have the answers, but it seems no one else does either.

What do you think? Comment below and let us know your thoughts on the evolution of streaming services and their impact on the industry.
