Now that we’ve all had time to recover from laughing at the poster reveal earlier this week that shamelessly ripped off The Dark Knight Rises poster design, nerds everywhere can once again become excited for the return of Star Trek thanks to the online debut of the first teaser.

Star Trek Into Darkness does not arrive in theaters until May 2013, but the first teaser is arriving online now to hype the forthcoming prologue sequence that will play before select IMAX screenings of The Hobbit (opening December 14). The film looks gorgeous, and for a first look we see a ton of great footage. I don’t want to spoil too much, but let me just say I haven’t been this excited about lava since I knew Episode 3 was almost over during an opening night screening. We’ve been tossing around the idea of writing a piece around the footage that screens before The Hobbit, so keep an eye out next weekend for more information on what to expect from Star Trek Into Darkness.
