SINGLE REVIEW: Snow White’s Poison Bite – “Will You Meet Me In The Graveyard?”

Artist: Snow White’s Poison Bite
Song: “Will You Meet Me In The Graveyard?”
Label: Victory

There comes a number of times every year when I must bite my tongue and say I spoke too soon. It does not happen so often that I have begun second guessing myself, but in all my years writing about music the one thing I have learned to be repeatedly true is that even the most obscure band can surprise you when you least expect it. Snow White’s Poison Bite, a band that I will forever think chose a terrible name, are that band this time, and I ask that you all hear me out before reaching for your pitchforks.

When Snow White’s Poison Bite first signed with Victory Records our initial disgust echoed that of music forum users around the world. The band is image-heavy, and anytime people start to think you might put your brand before your music is grounds for crying foul these days. Too many times in recent years have bands been found success riding the creative coattails of those that followed just before them, and we do our best at UTG to weed those bands out of our coverage. We thought for sure Snow White’s Poison Bite would be another makeup clad act hoping to cash in on Black Veil Brides like fandom by making a quick buck on their impressionable depression, but their latest single has us singing a different song.

Released via lyric video today, “Will You Meet Me In The Graveyard?” finds a place in modern alt-punk for a throwback horror sound with a soaring hook and lyrics destined to be scribbled on notebooks in every high school from here to the band’s homeland of Finland. Not since Victory gave the world Aiden has a band with such fervent drive to craft their own niche in the musical landscape. It sounds completely familiar, yet undeniable unique for its time, and it’s in that grew area between the known and unknown that SWPB will soon find great success. Every generation needs a band hellbent on the macabre and for those who only know Wil Francis as William Control or the voice of F.E.A.R. it’s quite likely Snow White’s Poison Bite will be that band. “Will You Meet Me In The Graveyard?” has all the elements of a hit song drenched in horror punk ethos, and I’d put all the money in my wallet on teen girls going insane for vocalist Allan “Jeremy Thirteenth” Cotterill long before the chorus comes to an end. This is the kind of song that earns you a following that will stand by your side, and for a band as new to the states as SWPB there isn’t much more that you could ask for.

If there even the slightest shred of horror punk love left in the marrow of your bones, give “Will You Meet Me In The Graveyard?” a chance to impress you. Snow White’s Poison Bite still have a ways to go before they find lasting traction in the states, but singles like this point towards a long career in the making. Consider this lyric video the firing pistol for the SWPB bandwagon and get familiar before it’s too late.

Featuring: Dr. Gruesome And The Gruesome Gory Horror Show will be released on April 16.
